Hello everyone! Today I am writing a bit of a different post than my usual style. Up until this point, my posts have been largely educational – I offer tips and advice for how to conquer certain parts of college life. Don’t worry, those posts won’t be going away! I just have felt trapped recently by this type of writing, like I have nothing unique to offer the blogging world. So, today I am sitting here in a little cafe and I just wanted to write something different. This blog will still be largely educational and advice-centric. Sprinkled in, however, there will be some posts that are more geared towards lifestyle and updates on what I am doing in life.
One thing I feel I haven’t done recently on my blog is introduce myself. So, Hi! I’m Alyssa, the writer behind this blog. I am a junior undergraduate at Ball State University, and I’m starting to freak out that I only have one more semester in college after this one is over. I love to travel and read and (occasionally) binge watch an entire tv show in one week.
Recently my blog has fallen a bit to the wayside. I am taking 18 credit hours at my University, and another 9 credit hours at a community college in order to complete my degree on time. I also work part time at Olive Garden, I’m a TA for a history professor, and I am on the executive board of the honors council! I’m not saying all this to brag – I just want to explain that as much as I miss blogging and really wish I was doing it more, I’m very busy with everything else. I’m writing this post while I sit in a cafe eating dinner between two meetings!
I would like to start adding some non-college blog posts to the blog because soon I will be done with college. This time next year I will be student teaching in Germany (expect lots of travel posts), and then I enter the real world. I don’t know about you guys, but I get a headache sometimes thinking about all the things that I still need to do and get taken care of before graduation… and time is rapidly ticking. This semester is flying by!
In addition to other lifestyle updates, I’d also like to start sharing some more of my favorite things each month! I love reading peoples favorites posts, like this one on Coming Up Roses! So today I will do that briefly and share a few of my February Favorites:
- How to Effectively Skim an Academic Book. The Happy Arkansan. I absolutely love this post about how to skim a book for your college classes!
- Study Inspo. When I hate studying and just want to go bed, I like to check out this pinterest board.
- Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara. At $23 a tube, this mascara is way out of my normal beauty price range. Fortunately, I decided to splurge a few weeks ago and… wow. This mascara is the bomb.
- Difficult Women. I love anything by Roxane Gay, but this collection of short stories was absolutely fabulous and a great February read! If you want to know more about what I’m reading, you can follow me on goodreads! (PS. If you buy the book through this link, I receive a small commission!)
That’s a brief February favorites from me, but you can expect a favorites post each month from now on! What are your favorites from February? Tell me in the comments or on twitter!
One Last Thing…
For any bloggers reading, have you ever felt like your niche is too restrictive? What did you do about it? Did you decide to stick to one thing or widen your blog to fit all your loves? What updates did you make to fit everything? Let me know in the comments below!
Thanks for reading lovelies!
